2 pm Mural Discussion
with MB Hanrahan

As part of the "Ventura Big Read", artist Marybeth Hanrahan worked with 43 students attending Providence, a Ventura County Juvenile Court School-to read aloud Bless Me, Ultima and create drawings for murals based upon the novel's characters and themes.

The public is invited to view the resulting 12 panels from this dynamic design collaboration currently on display as a temporary installation for six months in the mini-park in the 300 block of Main St. in Downtown Ventura. The mural will then be relocated to various venues throughout the City.

The mural was part of a month-long celebration of reading this past October included over thirty free events with a kick-off party, lectures, children's activities, a staged reading, discussion groups in both English and Spanish and the mural project offering a visual representation of the power of this timeless story and the impact that art can have on youth at risk. The mural project was funded in part through a grant provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and in part by the City's Public Art Program. Ask questions and learn more about the mural and MB’s other projects at this discussion.
