King City is situated on Highway 101 in South Monterey County in the heart of the California's Salinas Valley. Hearne, San Bernarbe Vineyards and Gill Onions are major agricultural related employers.

Mee Memorial Hospital and Casey Printing typify other sectors of the business community. Fort Hunter Liggett also plays a role in the city's economic base, located 26 miles southeast of King City.

The City of King’s visitor center can be found in the King City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture office located in the heart of downtown at 200 Broadway, Suite 40. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.
