Explore Monterey | Marina

Marina is located on the beautiful Monterey Bay, six miles north of Monterey on California State Highway 1. The City encompasses 9,000 acres and extends for 5 miles along the Pacific Ocean, north from the former Fort Ord boundary to the Salinas River and inland for 4 miles along the river to the municipal airfield.

"Marina" was established in 1918, and incorporated in November of 1975. However, the city was founded by William Locke-Paddon in 1918 who sold 5 acre plots at $75 per acre. Marina is the Spanish word for "seacoast" or "shore". Marina is quickly becoming a destination for weary travelers with hotels near the Marina State Beach and restaurants nearby.

The Monterey Coastal Bike Path runs through Marina connecting the communities of Castroville Fort Ord and the Monterey Peninsula. Recently Marina has incorporated a portion of the old adjacent and decommissioned military base "Fort Ord." Marinas airport offers sky diving for the brave. The Marina Locke-Paddon Park is a wetland Park with lots of birds.
